About Us

Elohim Education Centre is an assisted home school tutor centre that follows the regular mainstream CAPS curriculum. Learners are registered with Impaq – the largest curriculum provider in South Africa – and we make use of Impaq’s high-quality academic material.

Our learners are not only supported on an academic level, but are also provided with guidance on an emotional and spiritual level.

We create events where learners can learn social skills within a group and offer activities promoting team work.

We accommodate a maximum of 10 learners per group session which ensures that the tutor can spend sufficient time with each learner.

Meet the Team

Management

Francois Brown: Operational Director
Francois, our Operational Director, has a background in TEFL, teaching, training and the world of sales, media, and corporate training.
Francois, is a qualified leadership and career coach. He enjoys motivating those around him to be their absolute best.
Velicia Boshoff: Managing Director
Velicia, our MD, has a degree in Public Relations and her formative years were spent in the corporate world before joining Elohim.
It seems fitting that she took over from her sister, Vidette, who started Elohim in 2015 as her purpose is to enrich families by sharing wisdom in such a way that the result has meaningful impact.
Velicia wishes for each child to succeed with the support of her team. She looks forward to hearing about the student’s success in the world after they graduate from Elohim. Velicia invests her heart and soul into her work and as a result the Education Centre is continuously growing with her at the helm.
Marliza Koen:
Phase & Communication Coordinator
Marliza is a qualified teacher who strives to facilitate optimal learning, unlock potential, and promote a positive self-image in each learner by creating a safe, stable, and caring environment. She received her Higher Education Diploma from the Teachers’ College in Paarl and also completed Foundation Phase with Remedial Teaching as a fourth year subject.

Our Support Team

Annelize Miller
Annelize comes from a corporate career in adult learning. She is a practical problem-solver who loves helping people, and this, combined with her organisational skills, makes her a great addition to the team.
Ntombi Siko: Housekeeping
Ntombi has been with us for 4 years. Her beautiful smile and endearing ways are a daily pleasure at our Centre. She is like a mother to our students and we simply could not run the Educational Centre without her.

Tutors

Chris Immelman
Chris is a passionate teacher with a Bachelor of Education Degree in teaching Mathematics and Accounting obtained at CPUT Wellington.
He loves nothing more than helping children reach their full academic and personal potential.
Elmarie Gaum
Elmari brings a lifetime of teaching experience, spanning over 40 years of which the last 24 years were spent at Paarl Boys High and more recently at Elohim. Elmari also teaches private remedial reading lessons. Her advice to all students is that they always have a plan in order to reach their goals.
Hanli du Preez
Hanli has her Honours Degree in BEd and finished with a cum laude.
She has been an enducator for 28 years, tutoring for the past 8. Hanli wishes to have a positive impact on people’s lives and ensure that each learner reaches their full potential.
Marlu Horne
Marlu obtained her Bachelors in Education degree cum laude in Teaching for High School Phase.
Marlu has a love for children and enjoys spending time around people.
Her mission is to make a difference in her students’ lives.
Ria Taylor
Previously Deputy Principal at Paarl Girls High School with a PhD in Language Education. Her publication in LitNet was a runner-up in the National Teaching Awards provincial category Excellence in Secondary School Teaching.
Ria wants her learners to love Afrikaans and wishes to integrate technology into Afrikaans teaching.
Ruan Koegelenberg
Ruan is currently studying toward obtaining a BSC in Computer Science through Unisa.
He has extensive knowledge of IT, CAT, EGD, and Physical Science.
He is well-loved by all his students.
He is passionate about cooking and when he has the time, he likes to enjoy a good coffee.
Elaine van Rensburg
Elaines wealth of experience in the food service industry is set to add tremendous value to our Hospitality Studies.

She has a Grand Diploma in the Culinary Arts and has worked at many high end international establishments. Her experience has more than prepared her to pass on cutting edge knowledge to the next generation.

Mercia van der Vent
Mercia is an English Tutor with years and years of experience in her subject. English is her passion.
Erin Manual
Erin Manuel has a BEd degree specializing in History and Geography. She enjoys writing, art, baking, and reading in her free time. For her, teaching is both a calling and a craft.

A Special Thank You

My eerste kennismaking met Elohim was in 2017 toe ek ‘n alternatief gesoek het vir my Graad 10 seun wat op daardie stadium in ‘n hoofstroomskool was. Die klein groep opset het hom soos ‘n handskoen gepas en met behulp van Elohim se ondersteunende tutors het hy op akademiese en emosionele gebied floreer. Vandag is hy klaar met sy naskoolse studies en besig om sy passie uit te leef – hy doen tans illustrasiewerk vir die uitgewer van kinderboeke. Hy sal die goeie tye by Elohim vir altyd koester.

What our clients have to say

Ek was altyd ‘n skaam kind op hoërskool. Ek kom van Labori af, waar ek ‘n klein groepie vriende gehad het wat nie regtig veel omgegee het nie. Die onderwysers het my nie verstaan nie, en my persoonlike probleme is nooit aangespreek nie. Ek het my bes probeer, maar op ‘n punt het ek heeltemal moed opgegee. In graad 10 het ek COVID-19 opgedoen en vir drie maande lank gesukkel. Toe ek teruggekeer het skool toe, het niemand gevra of ek ok was nie. Kort daarna het ek weer siek geword. Ek het depressief geraak en het aan baie slegte dinge gedink. Uiteindelik het ek nie graad 10 geslaag nie, omdat ek nie kon leer nie.

Dit is hoe ek by Elohim beland het. Aanvanklik was ek skaam, maar ek het gou gemaklik gevoel met minder leerders om my. Dit was amper soos ‘n droom – te goed om waar te wees. Ek het opgestaan, met mense begin praat en my eerste vriende by my nuwe skool gemaak. Die onderwysers gee regtig om as jy jou kant bring. Van ‘n persoon wat in depressie was en bang was vir mense, wat wou wegkruip in my kamer en nooit uitkom nie, het ek verander in ‘n heeltemal ander persoon. Ek het my doel gevind by hierdie skool, my drome wat ek eendag wil bereik. Ek het nooit gedink ek sou ooit ‘n boek skryf nie. Ek het nooit van lees gehou nie, en ek is steeds verbaas oor hoekom ek dit nie geniet het nie. Graad 10 en graad 11 was my beste jare, nie net op skool nie, maar in my hele lewe. Al was daar tye waar my verlede my aangeval het, het ek daaroor gekom, aangegaan en alles negatief in my lewe vergeet.

Dankie aan my ma wat my in hierdie skool ingeskryf het, dankie aan God wat my geseën het met so ‘n wonderlike skool, en dankie aan my vriende en onderwysers wat altyd daar was. Ek is bly ek is ‘n leerder by Elohim.

Riaan Lubbe

Vandat Kyla by Elohim aangesluit het, het die volgende gebeur:

1. Haar selfvertroue het verbeter
2. Sy het goeie vriende gemaak en omdat hulle ‘n klein groepie was, was dit ‘n hegte band.
3. Klassies is klein wat beteken het sy kon beter konsentreer.
4. Omdat die klassies klein was, kry sy dan ook meer individuele aandag.
5. Elohim was vir my as ouer beter want ek kon ‘n direkte verhouding bou met die tutors en die bestuur waar ‘n hoofstroomskool ek beslis nie elke dag met die skoolhoof en onderwysers kon gesels nie. Dit het vir my as ouer beteken dat my band met die tutors beter was en ook meer persoonlik.

Elohim het uit hulle pad gegaan om te help en was ook altyd bereid om te luister na nuwe idees of verbeteringe en het altyd gehelp met die “admin” gedeelte rondom Impak en dokumente wat ingedien moet word.
Ek sou nie tuisonderrig self kon regkry op my eie nie omdat ek ‘n werkende ouer is wat 8-5 moet werk…..so ek is bly ons kon inskakel by Elohim.

Lindie Killian

In my vorige skool het dit gevoel asof niemand jou raaksien nie en niemand eintlik omgee nie.

Daar was meer as 30 kinders in elke klas. Die juffrouens het heeltyd gejaag en ek het gevoel ek kan nie ‘n vraag vra nie, want dan is die juffrou ongeduldig. Sy het nie tyd om vrae te beantwoord nie.

In Elohim voel ek nie verlore nie. Die lekkerste is dat die klasse so klein is. Daar is min kinders in elke klas en die tutors laat jou nie gejaag voel nie. As ek ‘n vraag het, voel ek, ek kan dit maar vra en die tutors antwoord my vrae. Hulle is altyd geduldig en verduidelik in meer detail.

Dit voel net asof daar baie minder druk is, al is die werk ewe veel. Dis ook lekker dat ‘n mens die tutors leer ken en hulle leer jou ken.

Ja, ek dink die grootste verskil is, ek voel nie meer verlore nie.

I’m Azaria Syfers an ex-student of Elohim, finished in 2023 at the tutoring centre. Elohim changed my life in so many ways, I went to public school where mental health was ignored and disadvantages such as dyslexia.
Elohim created a safe place and showed me to bloom in each and every way.
5-8 learners in a class sounds unusual or boring, but it’s totally the opposite it’s one of the best ways to learn and understand your work with educators who will explain the work more than 10 times until you understand.
